The Covid pandemic and lockdown hit artists hard. Exhibitions were cancelled, galleries had to close their doors temporarily and markets were cancelled. Fortunately artists are creative people and by thinking out of the box they moved their work to online platforms. I you are an artist who would like to make money on the internet with your art, there are various ways of doing this.
Post your work on your social-media pages. It is important to take good-quality photos. When you then post the photo, it must have a caption that explains the work of art and also informs people that it is for sale.
The internet is bursting with online art galleries or art shops. You can sell your art through them for a commission.
Create a website where you sell not only your original works of art, but also post other attractions. You can post blog entries on different art subjects, or discuss art products and services.
Sell high-quality prints of your original works of art in various sizes. This revenue steam makes your work easy to obtain because it is less expensive and you don’t have to paint a new painting every time to make money.
Sell digital copies of your paintings. The client buys the digital painting at a fraction of the price and has it printed and framed himself.
You can make YouTube videos in which you show people how you paint. The caption then leads them to the website and social-media pages, where they can view and buy your works of art.
You can also offer live art classes to students worldwide. They can pay an amount for a single class, or you can offer and sell a complete course.
Contact other artists and hold joint exhibitions on the internet. In this way all the other artists involved will bring interested buyers, who will see your work too and possibly buy it.
All these ways of making money have to come with a business mindset. Ask yourself what people want, who your target market is and how you are going to reach them. Start seeing your art not only as a hobby, but as a business. Don’t be ashamed of advertising your work and regularly post something online so that people will not forget about you.
If at all possible, it would benefit you take a short and comprehensive course on art as a business.
